I've been wondering why it bothers me so deeply that some folks who really should have valued Terry didn't.
I'm not talking about his talent, I mean as a person, as a gentle soul, as a truth-teller.
It's been keeping me awake. However, I have just realised how often I have a very solemn, consoling conversation with our rescue dog, cradling her long, heavy head in my lap and telling her it isn't her fault she was treated roughly for her early years: "People are stupid, Vera. They don't always appreciate the beauty, the softness, the wildness, the steadfastness of dogs. But we know what you're worth."
Do you think, perhaps, I have a weakness for the bruised and the under-appreciated?
Also, people are stupid.
